Between 11 am and 1:30 pm the rain, which was mixing with snow changed over to heavy wet snow. Over that 2 1/2 hour period there is currently 1.5″ of snow on the ground and it even stuck to the roads, which is very impressive for the middle of the day in mid April! At 1:30 pm a hole opened up in the precip shield and everything came to a halt. Around 2pm some light rain mixed with sleet started again and as of this writing it is currently a Sleet/Snow mix.
The Cold air is hanging tough at the mid-levels and by reading the latest NWS forecast discussion out of Albany, NY, there is some question if the warm air will ever make it to the Capital District. At this point, the thinking is still yes it will, but when? A slight wobble south or east, and the warm air never makes it in.
